Workshop: Using Book Creator in your World Language Class
Workshop Description
In this workshop, we’ll dive into the dynamic features of Book Creator. We'll explore how it can be used to enhance vocabulary, grammar, and cultural lessons through interactive books that your students will love to create and share. We’ll see examples of how other educators have successfully integrated this tool into their world language classrooms, sparking curiosity and fostering a deeper understanding of the language.
Book Creator is a powerful tool for the world language classroom, offering students an engaging platform to express their creativity while building language proficiency. By allowing students to create their own interactive digital books, the app encourages authentic language use through storytelling, multimedia integration, and collaboration.
Students can record audio, embed videos, and insert images to complement their writing, which supports multiple modes of communication and accommodates diverse learning styles. The app also promotes ownership of learning, as students can publish and share their books with peers, fostering a sense of pride and accountability.
Additionally, Book Creator enhances reading and listening skills by letting students create content that other classmates can explore. The process of building a digital book mirrors real-world tasks, helping students see the relevance of language learning while practicing essential 21st-century skills like digital literacy and creativity.
The goal of this workshop is to empower world language teachers to effectively integrate the Book Creator app into their instruction. Through three modules, participants will learn to unleash creativity, enhance language learning, and empower students as creators using Book Creator. By the end of the workshop, teachers will have practical strategies for using Book Creator to facilitate dynamic language learning experiences and promote student engagement and proficiency. Conducted in English.

About the Instructor
Nuria Navajas, Instructor. Nuria has been a teacher for more than a decade. She has taught Spanish Language and Literature and English in Spain and has been teaching all Spanish levels, also Spanish for Heritage Students, in Florida, during five years as an Exchange Visitor Teacher.
Nuria says, “I love my job and I prefer creating my own resources, combining different applications and covering all the skills my students need to learn and practice to be competent in the language I am teaching. If we, as teachers, know our students’ interests and context, if we enjoy what we are doing and we keep learning and practicing new methodologies, resources and applications, it would be easier for our learners to be motivated and engaged. I firmly believe our profession is the best and try to improve every school year to have the wonderful and exciting feeling of the first day of class.”
Nuria became a Book Creator Ambassador three years ago, and she highly recommends it for a language class. She has presented in some conferences in Florida and in the Annual AATSP Conference in Salamanca in the summer of 2023, sharing her projects and ideas using this tool in the language class.
Nuria graduated from the University of Granada (Spain) with a Master’s degree in Philology. She also earned a Master’s in Secondary Education from University Complutense in Madrid.
